With wonderful weather, a
great turn out and a lot of preparation Sheppard School's 75th was a
roaring success.

Mr. Wilke started at Sheppard in 1932. His
older brothers were part of the parade of students who marched from
Sudaby School to Sheppard for it's opening day.
Today, over 70 years later Mr. Wilke was back at
Sheppard School, and touched by the experience. "I was just down
here by the old roll books when a woman came up and asked my name. She
said I am so glad that you are here, I was hoping you would be, I used
to sit beside you in class."
Another
group who connected today reminisced about sitting out on that porch.
Still got that picture, asked one of the men a Sheppard student from the
40's, yup came the quick reply.
Still another pair of former students were
catching up on their lives since Sheppard, "My oldest boy is 60 now.
Mine is in his 50's", said the other.
Many
generations have gotten their start at Sheppard and much has changed
since the opening of that 4 classroom school house.
The
grand daughter of one of the school's former principals, and now a
Sheppard student herself, Alana Cooper, spoke of the ways that Sheppard has
changed, but still remains the same.
A
crew of volunteers, teachers, administrators, students, and custodial
staff, worked to turn the school into a visual statement of its own
history.
There were too many stories to tell them all here,
The Sheppard Girls who have been meeting annually for last 10 years now
50 years out of Sheppard. The woman who flew in from Chicago just
to be here for the day, or the woman coming back to Sheppard with her
adult children to show them that she was once a kid too.
It
makes you wonder what adventures and memories our current students will
recall when they come back in 25 years to celebrate Sheppard at 100.
